Why Bildungshorizonte?
On Bildungshorizonte, I bring together my experiences, knowledge and ideas relating to education in the 21st century.
With educational horizons, I am drawing a line from basic social skills to dealing with technological developments that will shape the future. For me, these two topics are directly related and influence each other. They have an impact on each individual and our systems, and I am interested in the resonances: what do technological developments mean for our humanity – what do they mean for me in my experience of the world and how do we actively shape these developments? The individual approach is therefore just as relevant as the view of society and the systemic conditions within which we operate. I am a service provider and creator of content that I hope will help and inspire.
My name is Tobias Jarzombek-Guth. I am a family man and former headmaster, and today I see myself as a school development consultant.
As a special education teacher and headmaster, I worked at various schools in three German states for around 20 years. I mainly worked in independent school systems because I found that they offered me more creative freedom. However, I also became very aware of the challenges and pressures that schools face in these systems. I am convinced that we can achieve and shape a great deal through direct (or virtual) interaction with one another. My skills as a systemic consultant (SG), quality manager (AKAD) and certified trainer for social skills help me to initiate strategic developments – for example, in the adaptation and implementation of AI in education. My long involvement in a scout association had a particularly formative influence on me. Places of informal learning, which for me are also pre-political spaces, have since had a strong significance for me and have had a lasting influence on my idea of successful education. As a father, I am also particularly concerned with the family conditions necessary for young people to succeed in their education.School development and artificial intelligence
For several years, I have been responsible for and involved in various school development processes for the Protestant School Foundation in the EKD. I support schools in finding their own ways to integrate artificial intelligence and digitalisation into school life in a helpful and strategic manner. For me, engaging with technical developments is not an end in itself, but an opportunity to discuss the value of education, the shaping of participation and new ideas for coexistence. We therefore always develop a ‘culture of digitality’ in line with the structures, cultures and attitudes that exist in the respective system. For me, in times of change, which is very noticeable in schools, it is important that we try out new things and develop new ideas – I want to encourage this and support schools in becoming places that develop their own visions for the future.

Social skills for schools and parents
For me, social competence is a key skill that defines us as human beings and which we should understand as a characteristic of uniqueness in a world increasingly shaped by technology and self-alienation. It helps us to take our place in the world and at the same time to shape our interactions with others in a constructive way. In a sense, it is the antithesis of developments in artificial intelligence and should therefore be considered alongside it. However, it is first and foremost a value in itself and thus part of an educational ideal that recognises and promotes the personality of the individual. This idea has always guided my career choices and development, and I support teachers and parents in discovering the power of social skills and utilising them in school and family life.

Online education
Travelling with my family over the last few years has made me aware of the growing range of online education options. Other parents have asked me which online education formats I find suitable as a teacher, and I have got to know families who have tried out new ways of educating their children. This gave rise to the idea of creating a portal that presents online education formats and offers parents opportunities for comparison and decision-making. I find online education programmes to be very flexible and adaptable. I therefore assume that they will become a permanent fixture in the educational programme for young people in the future. On request, I can advise families who live abroad, for example, on how to organise their individual educational biographies.

That keeps me busy
This is important to me
It is important to me that we continue to develop our understanding of mentoring young people. In this context, growth, experiential spaces and connection with oneself and others are important goals for me. I am convinced that education is a relevant key to successfully shaping one's life and that educational processes must change accordingly.
The more diverse our perspectives, skills and experiences are, the more freely we can make decisions. The cyberneticist Heinz von Foerster formulates an ethical imperative: „Always act in such a way that the number of possible choices increases.“
Resonance, resilience, openness and curiosity are just as important to me as the „6-Cs“ according to Michael Fullan: Character, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking.
